Alexanders Superior Aerated Waters Toronto Torpedo.
Without a doubt this is one of the best glass soda water bottles we have had the privilege to sell. This torpedo has a lot going for it. It is early, dating from the 1840s-50s, the earliest period for Canadian utility glass. Based on this date, the bottle was most likely American-made. The colour is simply incredible; a rich dark green. It is heavily embossed as follows: "Alexander's / Superior / Aerated Waters / Toronto".
Until recently, this bottle was known only from pieces. This is the only intact example that we know of at this time and it is a superb piece of glass, and is in incredible condition. It is essentially mint. The bottle has been lightly tumbled clean. It is made of very crude glass, and has tons of bubbles and imperfections. The neck of this bottle is paper thin. A gorgeous piece of glass!
If you want the very best in Canadian antique bottles, this is it!
Opening Bid: $3,000
Estimated Range: $4,000-5,000

J. Eves 1862 Toronto Torpedo.
James Eves was one of Toronto's earliest and most successful soda water manufacturers. There are many variations of his bottles. This dated torpedo is one of the rarest. The bottle is embossed front and back, and is dated 1862. It has the look and feel of a Canadian-made torpedo, but the date begs the question of where it might have been produced. It is near mint, having been lightly cleaned. This is a terrific example of a tough early bottle, and is sure to please.

You may be looking at the only example of the squat. It is iron pontiled (though the pontil has been largely polished off) and is in very good condition. It has been tumbled to sparkling clean. The bottle is handsomely and heavily embossed, though it exhibits some case wear. A scarce early squat.

Howard's Superior Ginger Beer, Toronto.
There were only a handful of companies in early Toronto that used glass sodas during the pontil period. James Howard was a soda water manufacturer and was also the owner of the George & Dragon Hotel in the 1860s. His bottle is unusual for explicitly stating that it contained ginger beer. Examples of this bottle are very scarce. The bottle is iron pontilled with much of the pontil having been polished off. It is near mint, with only a bit of internal stain. A great example of this rare soda from a small operation.

F. Riddell, Toronto.
Francis Riddell was a baker, grocer and ginger beer manufacturer during the 1870s in Toronto. This gorgeous dark aqua squat is a rare bottle from his short-lived operation. It is base-embossed with the mark of the Hamilton Glassworks. The bottle is in near mint condition. The glass is incredibly clean, and has not been tumbled. The line visible at front is an imperfection in the glass and is not a crack. These bottles are very scarce and this is an excellent example.

J. Eves Iron Pontilled Squat Soda.
Some collectors consider this variant of the Eves squat with sans serif embossing to be the earliest variety, used by Eves when he operated in Belleville, Ontario. There is no question that it is a very early bottled. This example is iron pontilled, and is made of terrific rich aqua glass. It has been tumbled clean, and the pontil has been largely polished off. It is in excellent overall condition. There is a half-inch bruise and two small chips in the lip that no doubt resulted from the cork being pried out. A very rare squat in any condition.
